Book review: Symbol

This book, by Angus Hyland and Steven Bateman, features over 1,300 symbols, organized into groups and sub-groups according to their visual characteristics. Each category includes a short introduction, with expanded captions and every symbol is captioned with information on who it was designed for, who designed it, when, and what the symbol stands for. These sections are interspersed with short but detailed case studies featuring both classic symbols and exceptional examples of recently designed symbols.

For any self-proclaimed logo or icon designer with a more than common interest in the world of logos, icons, or symbols, I would recommend this book as one of the most comprehensive and well written references created to date.
